Political Pottery is a special collection from full-time professional studio pottery based on the east coast. These artisan bowls, mugs, and plates are all created from her main line of functional ceramics for the table and home. They all have an added message - politically driven. These words may provoke a conversation that will make their use even more meaningful.  This potter has several decades of experience in ceramics and are known for their beautiful high-quality craftsmanship in their primary collection. 

 

These artisan mugs, bowls,  and plates are all made from high fire stoneware and porcelain. Each piece is handmade either on the potter's wheel or from a slab of clay.

THE IMAGE PROCESS

After the clay has been shaped and dried it is fired in the kiln. A second firing at over 2,200 degrees is the white base glaze firing.   After the white glaze is finished, the image is added and a final third firing melts the image into the glaze.

I create, find, and alter images to add to the surface of the glazed pieces. The sepia-toned color of the images you see is created from the iron oxide of the toner cartridge of an old laserjet printer.  The resulting process creates a unique work of functional art. These image-laden pieces are food-friendly but handwashing is recommended.  Images are not perfect photo transfers and the base white glaze has variations. Expect variations and remnants of the hand in the handmade process.
